Sevilla discover the magic formula of the Europa League, beating Roma 4-1 on penalties after a 1-1 draw, in the final seven games of the European Second Division. 7 wins.

The Spanish side were trailing in Budapest with Paulo Dybala's opening goal in the first half, but Roma defender Gianluca Mancini's own goal equalized in the second period.

Unable to separate the team in extra time, the match ended in a penalty shootout at the Puskas Arena.

Gonzalo Montiel scored the winning penalty after Mancini and Roger Ibanez failed to score in Roma in the 2022 World Cup final.

Jose Mourinho's Roma took the lead in the 35th minute thanks to a goal from Paulo Dybala, but Sevilla equalized 10 minutes after the break with an own goal from Mancini.

The fans created an enthusiastic atmosphere before kick-off, but the color of the stands didn't match early on.

The Italian had the first chance of the match, but after Dybala and Zeki Cerik made some great build-up play, Leonardo Spinazzola fired a straight shot at Sevilla goalkeeper Yasin Bunou.

Roma demand a penalty after half an hour after striker Tammy Abraham was caught in the head by Nemanja Guderi's high boot as the Sevilla defender tried to clear the ball, but VAR said it was a penalty. It was confirmed that it was not.

But a few minutes later they were ahead.

Dybala ran between two defenders, caught Mancini's through ball from the center circle and calmly flicked the shot past Bunou.

Sevilla finally found their way and in the 7th minute of stoppage time Ivan Rakitic fired a powerful left-footed shot from long range that sent the ball rolling over the post.

Sevilla manager José Luis Mendilivar brought on strikers Suso and Eric Lamela at half-time, replacing Oliver Torres and Brian Gill, giving the Spanish side the lead at the start of the second half.

Ten minutes later Mancini equalized by deflecting a close-range cross from Jesús Navas into his own goal from the right.

In the middle of the second half, Roma seemed to have regained the lead against the flow of play, but the Sevilla defense managed to parry several shots on goal from close range.

Dybala, who started for the first time since mid-April, has been sidelined and replaced by midfielder Georginio Wijnaldum.

Sevilla believed referee Anthony Taylor had ruled that Ibanez had beaten Lucas Ocampos with 15 minutes remaining, but the decision was overturned by VAR.

Italy should have taken the lead in the 83rd minute, but substitute Andrea Bellotti failed to find a shot on target and captain Lorenzo Pellegrini took down the goalkeeper with a deft free-kick.

Little happened in extra time as the tension between the benches ran high, but Roma defender Chris Smalling nearly snatched the win.
