Mauricio Pochettino will the new manager of Chelsea after signing a three year contract with Chelsea.

Mauricio Pochettino will embark on the task of rebuilding Chelsea after signing a three-year deal as head coach.

Chelsea have faced a campaign of oblivion since their £2.5bn takeover by Todd Bawley and Clearlake Capital last year, but have come under pressure to find a suitable post since the dismissal of Graham Potter. . Despite having four managers this season, they finished bottom of the Premier League for the first time since 1996 after a 1-1 draw with Newcastle at Stamford Bridge yesterday.

The turmoil began when Bailey & Clearlake, founded by Behdad Egbari and Jose Feliciano, fired popular Thomas Tuchel last September. Chelsea brought in Potter from Brighton, but the move backfired. Potter was sacked and Bruno Salter managed one game before Frank Lampard was appointed interim head coach.

Lampard has been unable to bring any improvement and Chelsea, who have spent around £600m on a deal since last summer, are hopeful of Pochettino. The appointment of the former Tottenham manager, who has been absent since leaving Paris Saint-Germain last year, is due to be announced this week. The search was led by Chelsea sporting directors Paul Winstanley and Lawrence Stewart.

After an extensive process in which Chelsea held talks with former Bayern Munich manager Julian Nagelsmann and former Spain coach Luis Enrique, Pochettino emerged as a preferred candidate. The Argentinian player has a proven track record of working with young players and has excellent interpersonal skills.

Pochettino will take over a disgruntled and bloated side and Chelsea will have to sell players after finishing 12th. They are prioritizing the acquisition of a central midfielder, looking to sign Sporting Lisbon's Manuel Ugarte, who has been targeted by Liverpool and Paris Saint-Germain.

Chelsea are out of European competition next season and the board is under pressure after a difficult season. But Pochettino is believed to be the one holding the ship steady. His backcourt team includes Jesús Pérez, number two, first team coach Miguel D'Agostino, goalkeeping coach Toni Jimenez and his son, sports scientist Sebastiano.
